The Museum of the Blind in Hannover is the State Training Centre and school for the blind (Landesbildenzentrum). The museum was set up in 1994 to showcase the history of how blind people have been educated and taught to live with their disability since 1843. It covers books, maps, Braille script, writing machines and electronic reading machines and computer software, all of which have made the world much more bearable for the blind. The museum is free to enter, although it is only open by appointment.
