The Ikonen Museum in Frankfurt is the museum of icons – specifically icons of a religious nature. The museum is located inside the Deutschordenshaus – a mansion on the south bank of the River Main, built in 1715 by Maximillian von Welsch for the Teutonic Knight Order (although it has been rebuilt since bombing in World War 2). The museum’s collection features many Russian Orthodox icons dating from the 16th- to 19th centuries. It also houses the 14th century Teutonic Church of St. Mary with its original interior altars and paintings.
