Hameln’s Minster church occupies a prime position overlooking the River Weser. It was built on the site of a Benedictine monastery which dated from around 800. The church is largely a Gothic hall style building, although the octagonal tower and 11th century crypt are both from the earlier Romanesque basilica. The belfry is the newest addition, dating from the 15th century. Inside, you will see a striking red chancel and other interesting features. The church is still in use as a main place of worship in Hamelin.
