Hamburg’s Börse, or Stock Exchange, is the oldest one in Germany. It was founded in 1558, and is still the financial heart of the city. Today it is joined with Hanover’s Stock Exchange. The exchange was originally located next to the Trostbrücke bridge, however due to steady growth in the 19th century, it moved to this new building on Adolphsplatz in 1841. It is considered one of the city’s most beautiful and traditional structures, and is always a hive of activity on weekdays.
