The Grauer Turm (Grey Tower) in Fritzlar is a medieval tower which forms part of the city’s original walled defences (Stadtmauer), which can still be seen around various parts of the city. This is actually Germany’s largest surviving watch tower. It once guarded the western entrance to the old town. It is usually open to visitors, who can climb to the top for a fantastic view over the town. If it is closed, the Tourist Information office can offer advice on times and provide the key.
