The great 20th century sculptor Ernst Barlach lived and worked in Güstrow. Two museums in the town show the greatest collection of his works anywhere. One museum is in the Gertrude Chapel (Gertrudenkapelle), set it its own grounds. This is the primary exhibition of his works, and opened in 1994. Works from throughout his career are on display, including sculptures, graphics, sketches and plastics. His life is described, and there is a shop at the museum. There is an entrance fee.
