Ernst Barlach was born in Hamburg in 1870 and trained to become a sculptor in Dresden and Paris. His life then took him to many locations, working as a sculptor and teacher in places such as Berlin and Moscow. His works can be found across Germany, particularly in wood, and in many buildings. This museum in the Jenischpark was opened in 1962 to exhibit some of Barlach’s works and information about him. Concerts and theatre productions are also held here occasionally.
