Eisener Steg is a distinctive iron footbridge crossing the River Main in the centre of Frankfurt, linking the Römerberg area with Sachsenhausen to the south. The green bridge was built in 1869, and originally charged a toll for crossing. The Germans deliberately blew up the bridge at the end of World War 2 to halt the progress of the Allies. It was rebuilt according to its original plans, and in 1993 had lifts added for wheelchair users. Boat trips along the River Main depart from the north end of the bridge.
