The Chilehaus in Hamburg is a unique structure built of over 4.8 million bricks. It was designed by architect Fritz Höger and built between 1922-1924 as a trade building. Amazingly it survived World War 2 unscathed. Its unique appearance and shape is what makes it appealing to so many visitors. The building gained its name as its original owner had made his money from trading saltpeter from Chile.
