Baldeneysee, or Lake Baldeney, is a 14km long reservoir created in the River Ruhr in 1931. This narrow lake was created to provide a recreational area for residents, and to purify the water in the river. Today it is still a very popular place for visitors, and many yachting and rowing clubs operate on the lake. There are also “Weiße Flotte” pleasure boats operating on the lake, which can prove for an excellent outing in fine weather when visiting Essen.
