The Alt-Sachsenhausen area of Frankfurt, located close to the south bank of the River Main, is a traditional place to enjoy drinking in old taverns and beer gardens. Sachsenhausen was once a separate town, and many of its original buildings still stand in some form. The area of pubs around Groβe Rittergasser rickety, small and full of character. It is the place to be at weekends, where people spill out onto the streets and enjoy the fun. It is also customary to drink the local Apple Wine, or Ebelwoi, when in this area. Quieter taverns, restaurants and music bars can be found in the streets immediately around here.
