The Zeughaus was built as an artillery store in 1706, with its classical baroque façade. It was later opened as a military museum of the Prussian Army in 1875. Following war damages, the building underwent extensive restoration from 1949 to 1965, and then opened to the public as the Museum for German History. In 2003 architect I. M. Pei – famous for his glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris – designed an extension to the Zeughaus, made of stone and glass and is complementary to the original building
