The Wendelstein is a mountain outside the village of Bayrischzell in Bavaria. It stands 1,838 metres tall, and at the summit you will find a meteorological station, an observatory, and a chapel from the 18th century. The views from the top are magnificent – particularly around sunset. To get to the summit, you can take the cable car from nearby Osterhofen, or the rack railway from Brannenburg. The railway is the favourable route, giving you time to take in the views and the unusual nature of the ascent.
