The Stiftskirche in Altötting is a late Gothic church with twin towers, situated close to the Gnadenkapelle church in the centre of the town. This church dates from the 16th century and was built to cope with the large numbers of pilgrims now coming to the town. It now also houses the Schatzkammer, or Treasury. This museum displays many items collected over the years, principally works of art and religious items. The Golden Steed stands out as a 15th century masterpiece, which was brought here as a gift. The skeleton of a Thirty Years’ War hero is also on display.
