Bückeburg’s Stadtkirche, or City Church, was built between 1611 and 1615 by Prince Ernst. It is one of the most ornately beautiful early baroque churches in the country. This was one of the first Protestant churches in Germany. On the exterior is the inscription “Exemplum religionis non structurae”, roughly translating to “An example of religion, not architecture”. The church has been restored a number of times - most recently after a fire in 1962. Inside you will find the baptism font of 1613 by Adrian de Vries.
