St. Hedwig’s Cathedral is the head of the Archdiocese of Berlin’s Roman Catholic church. It is located alongside Bebelplatz. The cathedral was built from 1747-73. Its design, including a large dome on the roof, was inspired by the Pantheon building in Rome. The church was badly damaged in World War 2 and rebuilt from 1952-63, where a new reinforced dome was added. Inside visitors can see a 16th century Madonna and a Pieta from 1420.
