Schloss Georgium in Dessau was built in 1780 – designed by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. It is a fine mansion set in extensive grounds close to the centre of Dessau. Since 1957 the palace has been used as a gallery of valuable paintings by the old masters. These works are generally from the 16th to 20th centuries, with over 2,000 held here. Artists on display include German, Dutch and Flemish pros, such as Rubens, Hals and Cranach. The palace’s pleasant landscaped gardens can also be enjoyed.
