A large Roman villa was uncovered in Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler in 1980. This was the largest of its kind north of the Alps – on a par with those in Italian towns such as Pompeii. After the excavations, the site was preserved and opened to the public, creating the Roman Villa Museum (Museum Roemervilla). Visitors can now look around the ruins and various objects recovered from the villa, and also learn about its history and former inhabitants. There is an entrance fee.
