The Römisch-Germanisches Museum in Cologne is dedicated to demonstrating the Roman history in the city and along the Rhine. Amongst its most treasured exhibits are a mosaic from around 220AD and a reconstructed tomb of a legionary from 40AD. It also houses the world’s largest collection of Roman glass vessels and a collection of Roman and medieval jewellery. The museum was opened in 1974 on the walls of a Roman villa found in 1941 which contained the famous Dionysos mosaic on display.
