Richard Wagner is one of Germany’s greatest composers. He lived from 1813 to 1883. Although he worked across Germany and Europe, some of his most fruitful periods were spent living in Bayreuth from 1872. He lived in Villa Wahnfried, which was built for him. Sadly the house was destroyed in World War 2, but rebuilt in the 1970s. The composer is buried in the garden along with his wife, who was the daughter of Franz Liszt. Inside the villa is a museum dedicated to Wagner. It exhibits his works, and shows original instruments, documents and furnishings from the house.
