The palace at Oranienbaum is situated 7 miles east of Dessau. It was built in a Baroque style in the late 17th century for Princess Henrietta Katharine of Orange by Dutch architect Cornelius Ryckwaert. It is set in a smart area of parkland carefully landscaped. One of the longest orangeries in Europe is situated in the grounds, and is currently back in use for growing citrus plants. A small museum in the southern wing of the palace shows its history, as well as displays of garden plants.
