Map
The Naturpark Rothaargebirge is a large park area in the south of the Sauerland part of North Rhine-Westphalia, stretching to the border with Hessen. The park is literally named after the Red Haired Mountains – a range within the park which are covered in conifers and deciduous woodland. The park’s highest peak is Kahler Asten, at 841 metres, which has an observation area at the top. The main towns in the park are Brilon and Winterberg, which has a thriving ski resort and popular branch railway.
