The Museum of East Asian Art in Cologne is set in a landscaped garden and Japanese style building. It was founded in 1913 and houses the collections of the founders Adolf Fischer and his wife Frieda Bartdorff. The exhibits include wood sculptures, Japanese paintings and prints, Buddhist paintings, and many Chinese, Japanese and Korean ceramics. The current building was opened in 1977 to emphasise the focus of the museum, and continues to receive important and rare objects as donations.
