The Stiftsmühle is a Dutch-style windmill in Aurich. It is the second tallest mill in East Friesia, and has sails stretching 24 metres each. The mill dates from 1858 and operated until the 1970s. From 1977 it was preserved and opened to the public as a museum. This museum demonstrates the methods used for milling corn, and the machinery used. There are interesting illustrations and documents around the walls detailing this operation and the history of the mill. The view over the town is also worth the visit. A tea shop is open in the former miller’s house. The mill is open most days.
