The Jewish Museum in Berlin was opened to the public in 1999 in a massively important example of contemporary architecture. The building loosely forms the shape of a broken Star of David, with a windowless exterior. Inside the life and story of Germany’s Jews is told, with particular focus on the atrocities of the holocaust – indeed, much of the architecture is designed to reflect the horrors of the period. Special guided tour of the exhibits usually takes place on Monday evenings when the museum is open late.
