The Helicopter Museum (Hubschraubermuseum) in Bückeburg was originally located at the Achum airfield near the city centre. Here a helicopter training centre has existed for many years, and the museum grew out of this operation from 1961. Founder Werner Noltemeyer was a trained helicopter pilot and began collecting disused helicopters. Since 1970 the collection has been housed in a city centre building which dates to 1483. The collection has since grown to include many single and multi-rotor helicopters and informative displays on the aircraft. It also has a well-stocked shop.
