Famous archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann lived and worked in Ankershagen, in Mecklenburg, for eight years. He died in 1890, and in 1980 this museum was set up in the former home of his parents. This half-timbered building dates from the 18th century. Inside visitors can learn about the life and works of Schliemann. Of particular note are the finds on display – most of which were excavated at Troy, including pottery, bronze and gold pieces. Schliemann’s childhood and family history is also exhibited through documents and photographs. There is a small entrance fee.
