Heinrich Heine lived from 1797 to 1856 and is regarded as Düsseldorf’s favourite son and one of Germany’s most famous writers. The Heinrich-Heine-Institut in the Altstadt is dedicated to telling the tale of his life and works and the far-reaching influence he had, through a series of exhibitions. Also on site, and of particular interest to scholars and literary types, is a library containing many manuscripts and research material into German literary history.
