Hamburger Bahnhof is one of Berlin’s earlier railway stations, dating from 1847 and located quite close to the new Hauptbahnhof. It is an impressive and elegant old building which now contains the Museum of Contemporary Art – opened in 1996. Its collections are those of masters, mainly from the 20th and 21st century, such as Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and Roy Lichtenstein. A new exhibition space from 2004 holds 2,000 works of art by 150 artists. It is a spacious museum well worth the visit.
