Hamborn Abbey is located in the north of Duisburg. Originally a parish church stood on this spot, which was donated in 1136 to the Archbishop of Cologne, who then gave it to the Premonstratensian order who hailed from France. Over the centuries the church was expanded to its current abbey status, with 12th century cloisters. The abbey was dissolved by Napoleon in 1806, however in 1959 the Premonstratensian monks finally returned to take over running of the abbey. Information about services can be gained from their website.
