In the Gendarmenmarkt is the Deutscher Dom, or German Cathedral, dating from 1708 (with its dome added in 1785). The building is identical to the French Cathedral also in the same square. In 1945 the building was completely gutted by fire following a bombing raid, however it has been fully restored and today houses the interesting ‘Questions on Germany History’ exhibition, which charts the rise of the Nazi party and recent social and political history.
