The Gemäldegalerie is located in the Kulturforum in Berlin, opened in 1999. It is a large building covering paintings of the grand masters from the medieval era to the 18th century, the interior of which is split into sections and also displaying relationships between the different eras. The collections, which are very extensive, bring together those previously divided between East and West Berlin. Amongst the great works on display are those by Hans Holbein, Lucas Cranach, Van Eyck, Van Dyck, Vermeer and one of the world’s largest Rembrandt collections.
