The Eigelsteintor is one of the three remaining gates of the medieval walled fortifications of Cologne. The gate is the symbol of this part of Cologne and is guarded by the Kölner Bauer at its base, which stands for the city’s independence (the original is in the city hall). The gatehouse has two large half towers, which have been restored and now serve as an entrance to the museum depository. There is also a café at the tower.
