Dachau’s Rathaus, or Town Hall, is situated in the centre of the old town. The current building was erected after 1934 when the old building 1615 was torn down due to its dilapidated state. The current building was annexed in 1976 with an old Confectioners’ House dating from the 16th century. The Rathaus is the seat of city administration, and is an award-winning building. The passage which runs through the building offers great views of Dachau, and also has a plaque commemorating the Jewish victims of DFachau’s concentration camp. A wonderful Christmas Market is held in front of the Rathause every year.
