Schloss Schleiβheim, referred to as the Neus Schloss, in Dachau is a baroque castle set in magnificent grounds. Originally a castle sat on the spot since medieval times as a home for Bavarian kings and nobility. However, in 1806 the castle walls were broken. The castle was rebuilt in its current style at the start of the 18th century. Its situation on a hilltop affords magnificent views over Dachau and as far away as the Alps. Inside the castle the banqueting hall and galleries are adorned with stuccoes. The grounds feature English gardens landscaped with waterfalls, canals and flowerbeds. The castle and grounds are open to the public.
