Cologne Zoo houses over 5,000 animals of around 500 different species from all around the world. It is one of the best zoos in Germany and a great attraction when in the city. The new Elephant Park is the largest enclosure of elephants north of the Alps. The zoo is also known for its excellent ape house. Other exhibits include a coral reef aquarium and reptile, insect and amphibian enclosures. Cologne Zoo is linked to the Botanical Gardens and the Rheinpark by the Rheinseilbahn cable car system.
