The Kölnisches Stadtmuseum is the Museum of the City of Cologne. It is set in a large old building with 2,000 sq. metres of display space. Its remit is to cover the history of Cologne, focusing on its most important aspects. Of particular interest is the history of the Carnival, and of Eau de Cologne. Other display areas cover the history of trade and industry in the city from the Middle Ages to present. Other areas of interest include religion in Cologne, and the city’s university which dates from 1388.
