Checkpoint Charlie was the most infamous of the border crossings between East and West on the Berlin Wall. Here many standoffs between American and Soviet tanks took place at the height of the Cold War. Now, long since the wall was brought down and the surroundings rebuilt, visitors can come to the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie Museum to relive the memories and learn about what happened on the spot. Many of those who died trying to cross into the West are commemorated here, and their stories are told.
