Burg Thurant is a castle in the Mosel Valley, close to the town of Alken. It was built on the site of a Roman fort in 1197 by the brother of King Otto IV. The castle passed through different hands over the years, including that of the archbishops of Trier. The castle today can be visited. From its high vantage point you have a great view over the Model and surroundings. The castle is the only twin-towered example along the Mosel.
