Schloss Lichtenstein was immortalised by Wilhelm Hauff in his novel named after the castle. It is located in the Swabian Alps, close to the village of the same name. The castle we see today dates largely from the 17th to 18th centuries, built for the Dukes of Lichtenstein. The original castle was destroyed in 1377 and another building erected in 1390. The building has been massively restored since the 20th century and is today open to the public for tours of the interiors and grounds. Its setting offers fantastic views over the surroundings.
