Brauweiler, near Cologne, is home to its impressive Abbey, or Abteikirche, which was originally built as a Benedictine monastery in the 12th to 13th centuries. It features six towers externally. Inside, the nave is lined with pillars – each with figurative capitals adorning its top. The building is largely Romanesque in style. The apse is an impressive example of this, with wonderful sculptures showing St. Nicholas. The church is in remarkable condition. It is often used to host classical concerts. Details of these can be found on the website.
