Altenberg’s Bergischer Dom Cathedral was built between 1259 and 1379. It was originally part of the Cistercian monastery, and an important pilgrimage churche. It is considered to be one of Germany’s most beautiful Gothic churches. Inside you’ll find many works of art and stained glass windows, and a 15th century altar and 14th century Annunciation. There are also a number of tombs of abbots and abbesses inside. Today the building is used by both Catholics and Protestants, since the dissolution of the monastery in 1803.
