Benediktbeuern Abbey (Kloster) was founded in AD 789, and was famous for housing the Carmina Burana manuscript before it was moved to Munich during secularisation. The original abbey was sadly destroyed, but a new set of buildings built on the site in the Baroque era. Today there is a modern school and concert centre run by the monks. The Abbey Church (Klosterkirche) has an important and impressive fresco of the life of Christ. Also on the site is the Anastasiakapelle, which is a wonderful chapel.
