Bückeburg Castle is located in the charming small town 30km north of Hannover. The expansive complex of buildings situated in an idyllic position overlooking the river, has existed since the 14th century. It was built by the Counts of Schaumburg. It became the residence of Ernst Schaumburg-Lippe in 1601. Later additions were made to the castle, with the great rococo banqueting hall being added in 1897. The castle is still used by the Dukes of Schaumburg-Lippe as a residence. The castle is open to the public, along with its gardens and their family mausoleum and working riding school.
