The Archaeology Museum in Bayreuth is situated in part of the Neues Schloss (New Palace) complex in the centre of the town. It is the only museum of its kind in Upper Franconia, and was established in 1827 (moving to this site in 1993). It features many finds from excavations throughout the region, as well as many loaned items. Eight different exhibitions show the history of the region from the Palaeolithic to Middle Ages, with emphasis on the native peoples of Bayreuth. A small entrance fee is charged.
