Aachen’s Town Hall (Rathaus) sits on the spot once occupied by Charlemagne’s palace. The lovely 14th century building is now the prominent feature of the Market Place (Markt). It is a wonderful medieval house, with figures of 50 Holy Roman emperors on its façade. Two of Charlemagne’s palace towers are incorporated into the building. The Kaisersaal inside is the best feature, and is open to visitors who can look around the building for a small entrance fee.
